Ziploc Surprise Seconds: A Custom Fridge and Prize Wheel on the Streets of NYC

The Brief & Challenge.

Ziploc teamed up with Too Good To Go for Surprise Seconds, a street campaign built around a simple idea: leftovers from some of New York’s best-loved food spots, remixed into sandwiches and handed out to the public. The brief was a hero object for the sidewalk that would stop foot traffic, tell the story at a glance and run a giveaway on its own: spin the wheel, win a sandwich.

A street activation has no walls and no second chances. The unit had to be big enough to read from across the avenue, survive a day of weather, crowds and curb-side loading, and still look like a product shot up close. It also had to be interactive in a way that worked for a passer-by with ten seconds to spare: the wheel, the lights and the prize had to be one obvious motion.

The Pop Solution.

We designed and fabricated an oversized Ziploc fridge as a single interactive installation, with the prize mechanic built into the object itself.

The fridge. A larger-than-life refrigerator in Ziploc blue on a raised platform base, with a working door, interior shelving, and a stocked interior of Ziploc containers and bags full of the campaign’s ingredients. The exterior carries the Surprise Seconds story, the Ziploc × Too Good To Go lockup and the partner restaurant badges in printed graphics and decals.

The wheel. A freestanding spin prize wheel in the campaign colors, divided into numbered segments. As the wheel turns, the fridge’s interior LED lighting cycles through the colors; when the wheel stops, the fridge lights up in the winning segment’s color and the guest collects the matching sandwich. The lighting and the wheel were engineered together so the reveal reads instantly, even in daylight.

The plinth. A matching blue signage plinth with “Spin the Wheel of Sandwiches” and the partner lockup, anchoring the wheel and giving the activation a second face for photos.

Cabinetry, CNC cutting, scenic paint, large format graphics and the lighting integration were all done in our NYC shop, and the whole set was built to travel: it loads on and off a truck and sets up on a sidewalk in a single morning as a brand activation that can move from street to street.

THE OUTCOME.

The fridge did what a street hero piece should: it was visible from a block away, it explained itself, and the spin-to-light-up mechanic turned a sandwich giveaway into a moment people filmed. The build held up through a full day on a Manhattan sidewalk and packed down for the next stop.

For a CPG brand, this is the kind of object that carries a campaign on its own: one fabricated piece, one mechanic, and every photo has the product in it.
